Yugadi, the Kannadiga New Year's Day, is celebrated usually during the second half of March or in early April. In Karnataka
, the first day of the new year is celebrated as Yugadi. There is a custom to worship the Sun god
on this day. The festival begins with a dinner constituted by a mixture of jaggery and neem leaves which represents the joys and sorrows interwoven in life. The social aspects of the celebration include oil-bath, wearing new clothes, decorating the house and giving presents to servants and dependents.
