Yavatmal

Yavatmal, the administrative headquarters of Yavatmal District, is situated 70 km south-west of Wardha, in north-eastern Maharashtra. According to the text Ain-i-Akbari, the city derived its name from ‘Yot Lohara’. 'Yot' being the Urdu corruption of ‘Yavata', the original name of the town and ‘Lohara’ was the name of a nearby village.

Yavatmal is a cattle-breeding town, and a market for peanuts, cotton, and timber.

Yavatmal Railway Station is a terminus on the railway line leading from Achalpur. The nearest major railhead is at Wardha. Nagpur is around 130 km north-east of Yavatmal.
