Shivaji University




Established in 1962, Shivaji University is one of the premier educational institutions in Vidyanagar in Kolhapur. It is named after the great Maratha empire Chhatrapati Shivaji. Today, the university has 248 affiliated colleges. There are 34 post graduate departments within the campus. The university has a sub center named Shivaji University Centre for Post Graduate Studies at Solapur, Maharashtra. Education is provided in the fields of arts, social science, science, commerce, education, fine arts, law, medicine, Ayurvedic medicine and engineering and technology. The Balasaheb Khardekar Library building has a separate reading room section with a variety of journals, periodicals and rare books. The Sports and Physical Education Department has all facilities to keep your body and mind physically fit. It includes gymnasium, athletics stadium, basketball hard courts, cricket ground and indoor badminton courts. There is health center, separate hostels for girls and boys and staff quarters. Youth festival, quiz competitions, essay competitions, inter university elocution and debate competitions, personality development program for students, and orientation program for cultural coordinators are organized. National Social Service (NSS) Scheme aims at developing personality and leadership quality. The place can be reached from Kolhapur Airport.
