Satara Fort




Satara Fort is an ancient fort built by Raja Bhoj of the Shilhar dynasty. It is situated near Satara. It was seized by the Maratha ruler Shivaji in 1673 and later on by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in 1700. During his reign, Aurangzeb altered its name as Azimtara. Parali or Sajjangad fort, which functioned as the residence of Saint Ramdas (Guru of Shivaji) is nearby.
