Malshej Ghat




Malshej Ghat, a haven for trekkers, hikers, adventurers and nature lovers, is situated on the borders of Pune, Thane and Ahmednagar districts, in Maharashtra. This charming hill station, situated at an altitude of 700 m above the sea level, in the mountains, is a year round tourist destination. Malshej Ghat is about 150 km from Mumbai.

The characteristic beauty of the wooded countryside and its rich bird and animal life, the rugged mountains holding historic forts, high-plateau forest houses, resorts and sanctuaries and the most enchanting rivers criss-crossing the landscape, presents a charming picture of nature’s splendor at work.

Major points of attraction include the Shivneri Fort - the birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji, Buddhist caves dating back to 3rd century and the historic Harishchandragad Fort. Other places worth visiting are the two Ganesh temples at Ozar and Lenyadri and the ancient Bhimashankar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Malshej Ghat is an abode for migratory flamingoes during monsoon.

The nearest airport is at Mumbai. Kalyan Junction Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
