Ahmednagar District

Ahmednagar District is surrounded by Pune District in the west, Nasik District in the north, Aurangabad District in the north-east, Beed District in the south-east and Solapur District in the south. Spread over an area of 17,048 sq km, Ahmednagar has a glorious history. Being a drought prone area in the state of Maharashtra, the district gets an annual rainfall of over 500 mm. The official language is Marathi. Sugarcane, bajra, jawar and wheat are the main crops.

The most beautiful holiday resort in Ahmednagar District is Bhandardara, a combination of sky-high mountains, historic forts, roaring-waterfalls, lush green valleys, shimmering rivers and a placid expanse of glittering water. Agastya Rishi Ashram (Hermitage of Sage Agastya), Ratangad Fort, Amruteshwar temple and the Rehkuri sanctuary are the major tourist attractions. Shirdi, Nevasa, Siddhatek and Kolgaon are some of the religious places.
