Adoor Gopalakrishnan

A Famous Film Director in Malayalam



Adoor Gopalakrishnan, born on 3rd June, 1941, at Adoor in Kerala, is renowned as the master in film field. He graduated in Economics and Political Science from Gandhigram Rural University. In 1962, he left his job in government service and joined the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. His sincere efforts and immense creativity helped in placing Malayalam cinema on the world map.

Adoor Gopalakrishnan is an expert writer as well. His book Cinimayude Lokam (The World of Cinema) fetched him the National Award for the best book on Cinema, in 1983. His published works include two plays and a book on plays and playwrights. It was under his initiative that the Chitralekha Film Society in Thiruvananthapuram was formed, pioneering the Film Society movement in Kerala. He bagged several National Awards for his films. British Film Institute Award, UNICEF Film Prize, FIPRESCI Prize, and Padmarajan Award are some among his achievements.
