Latur District




Latur District is located in the south-eastern part of the state of Maharashtra. It is bordered by Nanded District in the north-east, Parbhani District in the north, Beed District in the north-west, Osmanabad District in the west and south, and Bidar District of the state of Karnataka in the east. Latur has an area of about 7,372 sq km. Marathi is the official language. The temperature varies from 13o C to 38o C. It receives an annual rainfall of over 700 mm. Situated on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border, Latur is an important center of trade and commerce, and has temples dedicated to Siddheshwar, Ramlingeshwar, Bhuteshwar, Keshavraj, Ram and Ambabai. Darga of Surat Shahvalli and temples of Ashtavinayak and Parshwanath are also located in Latur. The major folk-arts are Banjara and Gondhali dance. Sai, Udgir, Ausa, Kharosa and Nilanga are the tourist places.
