Chennai, during the Gupta Period. The paintings, an extraordinary visual amalgation of both art and craft, mainly consist of themes on Hindu gods and goddesses. Tanjore Paintings are famous for their brilliant color schemes, decorative jewelry with stones and cut glasses, and the larger than life figures. The themes are mostly mythological with figures of
lord Krishna in various poses and stages of his life. The pictures vary in size, ranging from huge works to small miniatures.
