Dhansak

One of the best-known Parsi dishes, Dhansak has its origin in Iran and is described as a sweet and sour curry with a lentil sauce. It is a hot spicy dish which comprises either meat or prawns combined with a lentil daal, tomatoes and occasionally served with fruit such as pineapple. It is also possible to make a vegetarian version of this dish by using either paneer (Indian cheese) or a basic vegetable curry in place of the meat or fish. This is a favorite dish for Sunday lunch in different Parsi households. The dish is served in Indian restaurants.
