Churchgate, a suburb and major business area in downtown Mumbai, derives its name from the famous Churchgate Railway Station. The 'church' refers to the 18th century St Thomas Church, which is about half a kilometer from the station, and the gate was a 16th century gate, which was on the site where the Flora Fountain now stands.
