Jejuri

Famous pilgrim center



Jejuri is a famous pilgrim center situated near Pune. Khandoba temple is located here and is a family idol of many Maharashtrians. An annual fair called Jatra is celebrated at this temple during November. 'Khandobachi Jejuri,' the deity of Jejuri, is considered as the fighter God of the Marathas. Situated on a small hill, the temple is worth a view. One who visits the temple can have the view of Saswad and Dive Ghat. This temple is famous for its 'deep mala' (lamppost of stones) and it encompasses a Mandap and Gabhara. As a symbol of historic remembrance, the temple houses weapons and musical instruments such as sword, damaru, and paral. There are many beautiful sculptures in and around the temple. The deity is mainly worshipped by the tribal people, Dhangars.
