Karad




Karad, situated on the confluence of Krishna and Koyna rivers, is around 50 km south of Satara. The city is also known as Pritisangam.

The Samadhi of Late Yeshvantrao Chavan, former deputy prime minister of India, is on the banks of Krishna at Karad. Krishnamai Temple and high minarets are some of the attractions of the city. The ancient Buddhist caves, in the hills of Aagashiva, are near Karad.

A prominent educational center of the Satara district, it houses the Government College of Engineering, Venutai Chavan College, and Yashwantrao Chavan College of Science and several other institution of repute.

Nearest airport is at Pune. Karad Railway Station is on the Pune- Kolhapur. National Highway 4 passes through Karad.
