Bhimashankar




Bhimashankar is a hilly area located in the village of Bhavagiri, 50 km north-west of Khed, near Khandas Village. It lies at a height of 3250 feet from the mean sea level in the ghat region of the Sahyadri hills. The river Bhima originates from here. This place is noted for a major temple of Lord Shiva, called Bhimashankar Temple which is at the top of the hill. The Nagphani Shiva temple and Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary situated here are other tourist attractions.

Bhimashankar is located around 110 km from Pune. Even though arduous, this summit can also be reached by going through the Ganesh Ghat or Shidi Ghat.

The nearest bus station is Karjat which is about 40 km from Khandas. The nearest railway station and airport are at Pune, around 110 km.
