Baneshwar

Baneshwar is 25 km to the south of Pune. An ancient Shiva temple within dark woods is the prime attraction. The name 'Baneshwar' signifies 'lord of the forest.' The temple is believed to have been built by Bajirao Peshwa-1. Besides an idol of Lord Shiva, idols of Vishnu and Lakshmi are found within the temple. There are five shivlingas also in the temple.

Apart from being a religious destination, Baneshwar is a popular picnic spot with a pretty garden, stream and waterfall near the temple.
