Ballarpur is a fast growing town situated by the Chandrapur-Chennai rail line. It was a royal city in the past and signs of its glorious past are scattered in its environs. Today, this town is known for its collieries having nearly 2,000 million tonnes of coal deposits and large quantities of fine teak and other variety of timber that are available in plenty from the surrounding forests. The undisputed leader in the Indian paper industry, Ballarpur Industries Limited is also located here.

Chandrapur Railway Station is the nearest railhead. At Nagpur, some 370 km via Chandrapur is the closest airport.
