Umaria




Umaria is the administrative headquarters of Umaria District, in Madhya Pradesh. The town is famous for its coalmines. Umaria is about 350 km east of Bhopal.

Major tourist attraction in and around the town include Sagara Temple – dedicated to Lord Shiva, Jwalamukhi Temple, and Mariwal Temple – noted for its exquisite carvings of the Khajuraho pattern.

The nearest airport is at Jabalpur. Umaria Railway Station, on the Katni-Bilaspur section of the South Eastern Railway, is connected with Shahdol, Katni, Jabalpur, Satna and Damoh. National Highway 78 passes through Umaria. By road, Umaria is linked with Shahdol (69 km) and Dindori.
