Jabalpur District




Jabalpur is one of the largest districts in Madhya Pradesh located at the center. It is in Mahakaushal region. The common language is Hindi. Jabalpur has a population of 1.1 million.

Before the Mughal rule, the region was under the domain of tribal rulers. The kingdom was defended by Rani Durgavati against the Mughal invasion. The queen stabbed herself to death when she perceived that she was losing the battle. Her palace Madan Mahal and Chaunsath Yogini Temple (the temple of sixty-four goddesses) are the sites worth visiting.

The holy Narmada River is the main water source. The tourist attractions are Marble Rocks, Madan Mahal built by the Gond ruler Raja Madan Shah in 1116, Patan and Dhuandhar Falls. Most of the people are engaged in agriculture. The ideal time to visit is from October to March.
