Seoni District

Seoni is a tribal district located in the central part of Madhya Pradesh on a narrow, north-south section of the Satpura plateau in the south of Jabalpur Division. The name has originated from the word 'Seona' (or gudina arborea), a species of tree belonging to the verbanaleal family, which was commonly found in this area. It covers an area of 8,758 sq km with a population around one million.

Seoni District is noted for its timber resources. The main tourist attraction is the Pench National park. The Sagar and Wainganga are the main rivers. Asia's largest mud dam is built on the Wainganga river.
