Saira Dance




Saira is famous folk dance predominantly performed in parts of north India. It is popular in the Hamirpur, Jhansi and Lalitpur districts of Uttar Pradesh and in parts of Sagar District in Madhya Pradesh. This dance form originally hails from the Bundelkhand region.

The Saira dance is performed by members of the peasant community to seek the blessings of Lord Indra, the rain god, for a good harvest. Young boys and girls participate in this dance with sticks in their hands. The dance steps are accompanied by melodious folk songs.
