Oon Temple

Oon Temple, one of the finest temples built in Bhumija style, is situated at Oon village, in Khargone District of Madhya Pradesh.

The shikhara of the temple has four spines decorated with chaitya dormers on the central rathas. The quadrants between the spines are filled with miniature shrine models. These sculptures of diminishing heights are arranged in five to seven storeys in horizontal rows. The temple also has a mandap with a bell-roof and pillars, which are highly ornamented.

The village of Oon has a group of Bhumija temples numbering about a dozen. Except for two temples, which show Jaina traits, the rest belong to Shaiva cult.
