Chausath Yogini Temple

Chaunsath Yogini Temple

The Chausath Yogini Temple is the oldest of the surviving temples at Khajuraho and is built of granite. It belongs to the western group of Khajuraho temples. This shrine is dedicated to the 64 yoginis or manifestations of the Mother Goddess Shakti.

Raised on an immense platform is an open courtyard that is surrounded by miniature shrines for all the 64 manifestations of the goddess. This temple or cluster of temples, dating back to the 9th century AD, is considered the oldest monument at Khajuraho. Since the temple is falling to ruins, public access is restricted in this area.
