Dewas is the administrative center of
Dewas District in
Madhya Pradesh. It lies north-east of
Indore and south-west of
Shajapur.
Ujjain is 36 km north-west of Dewas.
The town is located on the Malwa plateau and at the foot of the Chamunda Hill. Founded in the first half of the 18th century, Dewas was formerly the capital of two princely states of British India. Nemawar, with a wide variety of wild animals, is a major tourist attraction.
The nearest airport is at Indore and
Dewas Railway Station in on the Indore-Ujjain line.
National Highway 3 passes through Dewas.
