Upper Lake, locally known as Bada Talab, is a massive earthen bund constructed across the Kolans River in Bhopal

. This massive lake with a catchment area of 36.1 sq km was built by King Bhoj of Dhar
in the 11th Century. The Upper Lake flows into the Kolans River and spreads southeastwards up to Sehore District
. Upper Lake, the oldest man-made lake in India, is the major source of potable water for the people of Bhopal. An attractive royal garden called Kamla Park can be seen near the lake. Visitors can enjoy boating on the Upper Lake.
