Bar-headed Goose




Bar-headed Goose (Anser indicus) is a subtly beautiful goose with silvery gray plumage highlighted by a black-barred white head and white neck stripe. The rest of the head and sides of the neck are white. The front and back of the neck are dark brown, and the rest of the body is grayish. They have an orange beak and orange webbed feet. Its flight feathers are black. Bar-headed Geese are perhaps the highest-flying birds.

Diet consists of grass, wild grains, wheat and grains from crops. Nest is mounds of moss, grass, and other vegetation, lined with feathers. The bird normally lays 3-4 white eggs.

The bird inhabits rivers, lakes, grain fields and grasslands.

Bar-headed Goose can be seen in the Bhindawas Bird Sanctuary, Haryana.
