Nagpur

The Orange City

The city of Nagpur has a rich heritage of many centuries. It had been an important cultural, commercial, political and industrial center for long. The city derived its name from the river Nag that flows through this area. Nagpur, famous for its oranges, is also called the orange city.

The present city was founded in the 18th century by Bhakt Buland, a Gond prince of the kingdom of Deogad in the Chhindwara region. The stupa at Deeksha Bhoomi, the Sri Podeshwar Ram Mandir (temple), Pench National Park and the Sevagram established by Mahatma Ghandhi are some of the nearby attractions.

The nearest airport, the Sonegaon airport, is 8 km from the city. Nagpur is a major railway station and is also well-connected by road to all the major places.
