Badal Mahal Gate




Badal Mahal Gate is a gate without a Mahal, located near the Jama Masjid, in the heart of Chanderi, in Madhya Pradesh. Built in 15th century, this imposing structure was built by King of Malwa Sultan Mehmood Shah Khilji I to memorialize an important victory. This 100 ft high gate is extensively garnished with exquisite carvings. Formerly known as 12 Mahal Darwaza, it was used in giving grand welcome and honour to visiting kings and state guests. Nearest airport is at Gwalior (230 km). Lalitpur (36 km) and Jhansi (124 km) on the Delhi-Mumbai main line are the convenient railheads. By road, Chanderi is well-connected with Gwalior, Indore, Guna and Shivpuri.
