Attuvela of Elamkavu Temple

Attuvela is a major festival of Elamkavu Temple in Vaikom. This two-day festival is celebrated during the month of April.

The festival commences with a procession of the floats, which has canoes carrying a huge replica of the temple. The beautifully illuminated canoes carrying the temple glide down the waters from Attuvela kadavu, which is 2 km away from the temple. It is accompanied by colorfully decorated other small canoes. The percussion music adds to the splendor of the ceremony. Belief is that this carnival is conducted to welcome the Goddess of Kodungallur, sister of the Goddess of Elamkavu.
