Kunnamkulam




Kunnamkulam, formerly known as Kunnamkulangara, is an ancient Christian center in Thrissur District of Kerala. This town is among the biggest business centers located north to Kochi. Kunnamkulam is about 22 km north of Thrissur and 8 km north-east of Guruvayoor.

The town has approximately 18 temples 14 churches and two mosques within the radius of 5 km. The major among them are Juma Masjid, Marthoma Church, Orthodox Syrian Church, Kakkad Maha Ganapathi Temple, Vedakkadu Devi Temple and Thalakkottukara Shiva Temple.

Arikanniyoor, Chermanangad, Iyyal, Kattakampal and Kandanissery are the places of archeological significance here. Plenty of kudakkalls, thoppikkal, kallaras and caves are found in these areas, which aged more than 2000 years. A collection of old Roman Coins (dated back to BC 123 and AD 117) were discovered from the town.

Guruvayoor Railway Station is the nearest railhead. Kunnamkulam is around 80 km from Cochin International Airport. National Highway 17 passes through the town. Kunnamkulam municipal bus stand operates regular services to Wadakanchery, Ollur, Kodungallur and Cheruthuruthy.
