Shri Jagannath Temple

Shri Jagannath Temple is situated at Madathilparambu, 3 km from Thalassery, in Kannur District. The presiding deity is Lord Shiva. The temple was consecrated in February 1908 by the famous religious and social reformer of Kerala, Shri Narayana Guru.

The temple complex has a Chuttambalam (building constructed around the sanctum sanctorum), Anakottil and a Mandapam in which a statue of Shri Narayana Guru is installed. The pujas are performed by non-Brahmins.

The annual festival is an eight day event held during the Malayalam month Kumbham (February – March). The festival provides opportunities for many eminent artists and performers to exhibit their caliber. On the seventh evening, there is a procession with seven caparisoned elephants. The festival is concluded with an eye-catching display of fire works. Shivratri and Shri Narayana Guru Jayanthi are also celebrated.
