Jainmedu




Jainmedu, the western suburb of Palakkad town, is among the few places in Kerala where the vestiges of Jainism have survived. The place is about 3 km west of Palakkad.

A historic granite Jain temple situated here has images of Jain Tirthankars and Yakshinis. The famous Malayalam poet Kumaran Asan wrote his monumental poem 'Veena Poovu' (the fallen flower) at a Jain house here. Vadakkanthara Temple and Big Bazar are other interesting places.

Palakkad Junction Railway Station is the nearest major railhead. C A Coimbatore Airport is situated 55 km from Palakkad.
