Kollengode, the erstwhile capital of Kollengode Rajas, is a town located about 19 km south-east of
Palakkad, in
Kerala. The name was derived after ‘Kollen' (black smith community), who resides here.
The Nelliampathy Hills (situated as a fort on one side) and a large area of fertile paddy fields (on the other side) makes Kollengode a favorite tourist destination. Gayathri River, a tributary of Bharathapuzha, passes through this town.
Places of tourist interest are the Kollengode Palace, built in the traditional architectural style, and a shrine dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Seethakundu and Govindamalai near Kachankurichi are very popular among the trekkers and adventurous picnickers.
Kollengode Railway Station is on the Palani-Palakkad line of the Southern Railways. C A Coimbatore Airport is 55 km from Palakkad. Regular buses connect Kollengode with Palakkad, Chittur, Alathur and Parambikulam.
