Kondotty




Kondotty is situated in Malappuram District of Kerala. An important Muslim pilgrim center, it is famous for the 500-year-old Pazhayangadi Mosque. Kondotty, 26 km north of Malappuram and 20 km from Manjeri.

The great Mapilla poet Moyiain kutty was born at Kondotty, who made Mappilapatt the folk song of Muslims popular. The history of Kondotty is connected with that of Kondotty Thangals, the Sufi exponents. The first Thangal Mohammed Shah was induced into Kondotty by Tipu Sultan of Mysore, to bring the mappilas to the side of his rule.

The main attraction of the place is the week long festival celebrated at the Pazhayangadi Mosque called the Kondotty Nercha. Another important attraction is Nediyiruppu, which is 2 km from Kondotty.
