Poopara




Poopara is located on the Kumily - Munnar route in Udumbanchola, Idukki District. Known as a traveler’s spot in Idukki, Poopara is blessed with cool climate and the natural scenery. Large areas of protected forest with tea plantations are sure to attract any city-dwelling traveler.

Bodi Mettu, 9 km from Poopara, is the border from where one can get a charming view of the plains in Tamil Nadu. The best time to visit Poopara is during summer. It is a heady experience to take a walk through the sprawling cardamom and tea estates. Santhanpara, famous for quality spices (both pepper and cardamom) is just 3 km away from Poopara on Nedumkandam route. A part of this village forms the Mathikettan Shola National Park.

Other attractions nearby are Anayirankal Dam with its manicured tea gardens and blue hills beyond, and the Lock Heart Gap.

Poopara can be approached from Munnar, 30 km away, on the Munnar - Kumily Highway. One can also reach Poopara on the Idukki route via Kothamangalam.
