Moolamattom

Moolamattom is one of the prominent towns of Idukki District in Kerala. It lies 19 km from Thodupuzha, a picturesque place on the banks of the Thodupuzha River .

The place is famous as the site of Moolamattom Power Station, the biggest underground Hydro-electric Project in the state. The water from the Idukki Dam is carried by the underground pipes to the power station. The residual water flows to Kudayathurpuzha through tunnel and open channel, and is diverted for irrigation purposes in Muvattupuzha. Visitors are allowed to enter the Moolamattom Power Station with prior permission from the KSEB Office.

Malankara Dam, Kudayathur Mala, Thommankuthu Falls, Saramkuthi Kavu Temple and Ilaveezhapoonchira are the nearby attractions. Idukki Dam, the world's second and Asia’s first arch dam, is 43 km away from Moolamattom.

Moolamattom Bus Station, situated in the town center, operates many buses towards the hilly areas such as Adimali, Cheruthoni and Kattappana. The convenient railheads are Ettumanur Railway Station and Kottayam Railway Station.
