Thekkemadam Sree Dharmasastha Temple




Thekkemadam Sree Dharmasastha Temple is situated near Anavathil at Mattancherry in Ernakulam District. It is a witness to almost 400 years of the history of the Tamil Brahmin community in Kerala. The 'thekkethalam' and the sanctum, which houses the idol of Lord Dharmasastha (Lord Ayyappa), are the main parts of this shrine.

There is a Ganesh temple and a Sarpakavu in the premises. Two temple tanks are also here. The festive occasion is Jeernodharana Ashtabandhana Mahakumbabhishekam.

Mattancherry is about 10 km from Ernakulam Junction Railway Station. Frequent bus and ferry services connect the place with Ernakulam, the nerve center of Kochi city.
