Achankoil Sastha Temple

Achankoil Sastha Temple lies at Achankovil, a pilgrim center, in Kollam District. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Ayyappa.

The installation of the idols was made by the Thazhamon priests of Thazhamon family, one of the two Tantri familes in Kerala. The proper location of the temple is at Kandamala. It is believed that Lord Ayyappa gave 'darshan' to a worshipper who entered into a long penance at this place. The main festivals season is during 'November and December,' the time of Sabarimala season. Pilgrims from Kerala and Tamil Nadu visit this temple through out the year. Achankovil River flows nearby.
