Nilambur




Nilambur is a small sleepy and beautiful town, 35 km from Malappuram town, in Kerala. Situated on the banks of River Chaliyar, Nilambur is famous for its teak plantation.

The Teak Museum of Nilambur, near the well-known Canolly Plot, presents scientific information and exhibits on various aspects of teak. Nilambur is the original home of the Cholainaickans, the oldest aboriginal tribe of Kerala.

The major festival of Nilambur is known as Nilambur Pattu which falls in the month of February.

Nilambur town is also famous for kovilakoms, the residence of local rulers and rajas of earlier days. Nedumkayam, 18 km from Nilambur town, is noted for its rich rain forests.

Nilambur is the terminus of Shoranur-Nilambur railway line.
