Brihaspati

Planet God of the Hindus

The planet Jupiter in Vedic astrology is known as guru, brihaspati, and devaguru. Brihaspati is the celestial priest who is master of the Word, the one who dispels darkness and destroys the enemies of the gods by reciting magical formulae. He has seven mouths, seven rays emanate from him, and he rides on a chariot drawn by eight horses. Belief is that, the worship of Brihaspati or Jupiter will cure ailments affecting the stomach. Lord Brihaspati wards off sin and helps in gaining strength, valor, and longevity. He grants the boon of good education, and fatherhood to the childless. Considered as the leader of deities, Brihaspati is the protector of the world. Kind-hearted, he is also a dispenser of justice. Thursday is ideal for the worship of Jupiter.
