Willingdon Island

A man-made island, Willingdon Island, was created from the materials dredged while deepening the Cochin Port. The architect of the island was Lord Bristow and it serves as the headquarters of India's Southern Naval Command.

Several government establishments like the Cochin port trust and the customs house and the government of India tourist office are located in the island. Surrounded by backwaters, the island has a picturesque view and houses some of the best hotels in Kochi. Willingdon Island is sandwiched between Fort Kochi and the main land and is about 5 km from Kochi city. Cochin Harbor and the Cochin Harbour Terminus Railway Station all are located here.
