Chakkulathukavu Sri Bhagavathi Temple

Located in Neerettupuram, Chakkulathukavu Sri Bhagavathi Temple is popularly called Sabarimala of women. Chakkulathamma, the famous miracle worker is the main deity here. It is saying that the goddess has special affinity towards children and women; hence the name Women's Sabarimala.

The temple is on the border of Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts, about 12 km west of Thiruvalla town. Two famous rivers, the Pampa and the Manimala, flow on either side of the temple. One of the specialties of this temple is that people irrespective of caste, creed and color are allowed to enter the temple.

The annual festival is celebrated on the thrikkartika day of Vrischikam month (November/December). A large number of women offer ‘pongala’ on this auspicious day. Also, many pilgrims reach the temple with ‘irumudikettu’ (bag with two bundles) upon their heads.

The temple is about 12 km from Thiruvalla Railway Station, the nearest railhead. Alappuzha town is situated at a distance of 23 km from Neerettupuram.
