Ulakkayurutty Falls

Ulakkayurutty Falls is located at Chinnar in Idukki District. The name Ulakkayurutty was derived from the appearance of the falls when seen from a distance. 'Ulakka' means pestle. Ulakkayurutty falls, second only to the Athirappilly Waterfalls in strength, is just 10 minute walk from Chinnar.

Side by side with Ulakkayurutty falls are two other named Mathukokka and Kozhikanam. During summer, the falls gets thin but never dries up. Fishing and bathing facilities are provided with prior permission.

Chinnar is famous for the Wildlife Sanctuary as well as the tea estates. The lush green estates remain a memorable sight. The trek through the tea gardens is a greatly inspiring one.

Lodging facilities are provided at Elappara. One can access Ulakkayurutty falls from Munnar (60 km) or Kottayam via Elappara. Cochin International Airport is the nearest airport.
