Palayur Mahatheerthadanam

The Great Palayur Pilgrimage

Palayur Mahatheerthadanam is a great pilgrimage conducted by Palayur Church on the third Sunday of the Lent every year. The pilgrimage begins from Lourde Cathedral, Thrissur and the devotees walk 28 km, all the way from Thrissur to Palayur, carrying wooden crosses.

As the procession progresses, parishioners from churches enroute also join from three different directions at St Thomas Nagar, a central place near Palayur. The procession then moves towards St Thomas Pilgrim Center, led by the Archbishop.

This great pilgrimage attracts thousands of people from all over the Thrissur District and different parts of Kerala. Thrissur Railway Station and Cochin International Airport serve this region.
