Aymanam is a small hamlet located 8 km from
Kottayam town in central
Kerala. This village is a paradise of mangrove forests, green paddy (rice) fields and coconut groves interspersed with enchanting waterways and canals adorned with spicy and medicinal plants. The
Meenachil River flows through this village. Aymanam grew into prominence after it formed the setting of Arundhati Roy's, Booker prize winning book, 'The God of Small Things.'
There are many ancient Christian churches and Hindu temples at Aymanam. Among them are the
Kallumkathra St George Jacobite Syrian church and St John's Jacobite Syrian Church at Olassa. Kumarakom is a nearby tourist attraction.
By road, Aymanam is about 8 km on the Kottayam–Chunkam route. The nearest railway station is Kottayam Railway Station. Aymanam is 85 km from Cochin International Airport.
