Holy ritualistic bathing of an idol



Abhishek is the holy ritualistic bathing of an idol using water (jalabhishek), milk (ksheerabhishek), ghee (neiabhishek), sandal paste (kalabhabhishek) or other special substances. It is done preparatory to a puja. A major abhishek is the Panchamritabhishekam - the Abishek performed of milk, butter, ghee, honey, sugar and tender coconut water. Kanakabhishek, Kumbhabhishek are some special abhisheks.
