National Highway 4 links Thane
with the capital city of Tamil Nadu
. This 1,235 km-long road spans across the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka
, Andhra Pradesh
and Tamil Nadu and touches some major district headquarters towns and cities on its way.
National Highway 4 originates at the junction with National Highway 3 at Thane and runs eastwards past Panvel up to Pune. It then turns south, passes through Satara and Karad before leaving Maharashtra near Kagal to enter Karnataka.
In Karnataka, it travels 533 km south-east through the cities of Belgaum, Dharwad, Haveri, Davangere and Tumkur, before reaching Bangalore. It then turns eastward, runs past Kolar and enters Andhra Pradesh after passing Mulbagal.
National Highway 4 traverses 83 km in Andhra Pradesh; Chittoor is the major city on the way. In Tamil Nadu, the highway joins National Highway 46 near Ranipet and passes through Kanchipuram and Sri perumbudur, before terminating at Chennai.
On the way, National Highway 4 meets National Highway 50 near Pune, National Highway 63 at Hubli and National Highway 48 near Bangalore.
