Ganapati Homa

Ganapati or Ganesh, the elephant faced God, is the remover of all obstacles and the fulfiller of human endeavors. Ganapati Homa is performed as the startup of all other homas. It is believed that performing Ganapati Homa will bring prosperity, health and wealth. It is also done to get relief from doshas (problems).

Ganapati Homa should be performed in the early morning and Poornahuthi (final offering to the fire) to be offered during sunrise. Homa is done in a Vedic way. Ashta Dravya (a mixture of eight materials) - coconut, banana, honey, sugarcane, ghee, modhaka, jaggery, and puffed rice - is used as the ingredient to perform the homa.

In Sankatahara Chaturthi Homa, apart from ghee; all varieties of flowers, fruits and sweets, which may count up to 108 dravyas (materials) are used. Tulsi leaves are not offered to Ganesh.
