Chamundeswari Temple



Located in Chamundi hills, Chamundeswari Temple was patronized by the Wodeyar Kings of Mysore. The temple is around 2000 years old and is dedicated to Chamundeswari. It is dominated by a towering, 40m high seven storeyed gopuram. The 1000 plus steps used to climb up the hills and the colossal nandi on the 800th step are the best known features. The Nandi is 15 ft high, 24 ft long and adorned with jewels and bells of stone. Dussehra is the main festival in the temple. On the day of Vijayadasami, there occurs a grand and colorful procession.

Keshava temple at Somnathpur, Nanjangud temple, Mysore Maharaja's palace, Chamarajendra art gallery, Zoological Gardens, Brindavan gardens, and Bandipur tiger reserve are nearby.
