A prominent town in
Shimoga District of
Karnataka, Nagar is situated around 62 km west of
Shimoga.
In and around the town lie several noteworthy artifacts such as hero-stones, masti stones, erotica, snake and moon sculptures. There is an abandoned temple at Nagar. Also at Nilaskal, close to Nagar, three Iron Age megalithic sites have been found.
Hosanagara (11 km north) and Lakshmipur are the major places nearby. Thirthahalli, a picturesque picnic spot, is 28 km away.
Mangalore Airport is 96 km south. Shimoga Town Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
