Belgaum District




Belgaum District borders two states Maharashtra and Goa. Languages spoken are Kannada, Hindi, English, and Marathi. It is famous for toys made from local wood, yellow teak, and leather. ‘Kunda’ is a delicious sweet available in Belgaum.

There are numerous temples and masjids: Safa masjid, Jamia masjid, the oldest Kapileshwar Temple, Yellamma Temple, Ananthashayana Temple, and Maruthi Temple. Saundatti, the original capital of the Rattas, is a celebrated pilgrim center. Belgaum is home to many well laid-out parks such as the Sambhaji Udyan, the Nath Pai Park, and the Shivaji Udyan.

Belgaum has a large number of industries including the INDAL (Indian Aluminium Company) aluminum factory. Several divisions of the Indian Armed Forces, the regimental headquarters of the Maratha Light Infantry and the Commando School of the Indian Army are stationed in Belgaum District. The Indian Air Force has a big airbase near Belgaum.
